Let's talk about stress. Stress management is an important skill for any parent, but it is extremely important for parents of children with autism spectrum disorder and other types of mental and physical disabilities. As the parent of a special needs child, ,you will have typical parental stress along with the unique challenges of raising a child with unique needs.

Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to connect with parents of special needs children from all over the world. After reading hundreds of emails, I noticed that there was a few things that each parent had in common - Stress.

It's one of the things that some of us parents find difficult to talk about. Many parents express moments of loneliness, exhaustion and increased stress. It is not uncommon for autism parents to dive into periods of sadness, depression or social isolation.

As a special needs parent, I understand the need to break away for a moment and regain my composure. It may not hit me everyday, but there are times when I feel like I'm strapped into an emotional rollercoaster. If you've ever felt this way, I want to let all of you know that you are not alone. Help is on the way.
